TWO CASES OF THE USE OF VIOLENCE FROM KUKËS POLICE

REPEATED CASES OF VIOLENCE USE BY POLICE

The Albanian Helsinki Committee (AHC) correspondent in Fier announced of another case of use of police violence. It was used against a citizen named Feti Kanani. The correspondent had a personal meeting with him.

Three policemen detained him the first week of April at the town bazaar to check his documents. He was detained and accompanied at the police station. When he was accompanied he was called names against him and his family and he was hit with fists. One of the policemen, Ylli Myrto, used the baton leaving signs in his body, face and legs. Many citizens ho were there in a bazaar day were witnessing such a thing. He was hit time and again while taken to police station. He was closed at the pre-detention rooms for three hours. The detained person acknowledges that he was not maltreated at that place.
After he was let free citizen Kanani, offended and revolted from the brutal behaviour of the police officials and especially of policeman Ylli Murto made a written complaint to the Police Department attaching the proofs of maltreatment, the medical-legal report and pictures with signs of damage from the hits with fists and baton.

That is another case added to the numerous cases of use of violence from police. The AHC has expressed the concern of the public opinion by denouncing such cases, by asking the proper institutions to undertake the necessary measures. In that context it is to evaluated the stand of the Fier Police Department that passed the case to the prosecutor office asking it to open the process against the involved policemen in the case.
