Albanian Helsinki Committee Denounces
Violence Against Former Intelligence Service Director
November 01, 2006
According to media reports, yesterday, on
October 31, 2006, the former Director of the State
Intelligence Service Mr. Fatos Klosi, while he was
walking out of his apartment, was stopped and attacked
by an unknown person. As it was verified later, the
person had been an employee of this service during the
period 1992-1998 and was called Anibal Basha.
The Albanian Helsinki Committee denounces
this hideous act, an act that posed social danger and
threatened the health and life of Mr. Klosi. Although
competent bodies will clear the real motives of this
incident, preliminary information so far, as admitted by
the detained person himself, speak to an immediate
reaction toward clarifications offered publicly by Mr.
Fatos Klosi with regard to the abduction and
disappearance of Remzi Hoxha.
The Albanian Helsinki Committee
forcefully denounces this act also because such acts
against special citizens (in this case, Mr. Klosi) seek
to hush them to not speak and make public what they may
know about a given happening or about a penal offence
that may have been committed.
The Albanian Helsinki Committee, on this
occasion, deems it necessary to suggest to penal
prosecution bodies and the court to examine the case by
giving it priority and with objectiveness.
AHC is of the opinion that this very fact
alone shows how necessary and fair the approval of the
law On witness protection was.
