LOCAL ALBANIAN TRAINERS TRAINED ON THE TREATMENT
OF JUVENILES AND WOMEN IN PENITENTIARY
INSTITUTIONS[1]
07.06.2007
On
4-6 June 2007, AHC carried out the Train of
Trainers (ToT) program where 23 Albanian
trainers from Lezha, Burrel, Tepelena, Jordan
Misja, Ali Demi, Peqin, Rrogozhina, Vaqarr, Mine
Peza, Kruja institutions, Prisons’ Hospital,
Training Center of Prisons (TCP) staff, legal
and social issues directorate staff of the
General Directorate of Prisons (GDP) were
trained on the treatment of juveniles and women
in penitentiary institutions. They were also
provided with didactical skills necessary for
continuous training of their colleagues on such
issues.
Trainers in this training were two Dutch Prison
Service experts, one Albanian expert from the
Albanian prison administration and one Dutch
expert from an independent professional training
institute.
More
concretely, trainers treated issues like
psychological implication of detention of women
and juveniles, the atmosphere in a women and
juvenile regime; issues related to babies,
children, health service and other support
activities, conflict management, daily programs,
safe climate in the penitentiary institutions,
basic skills of motivational interviewing, staff
training, and best practice on different
programs/activities in women and juveniles
penitentiary institution. Participants were
provided with the first draft of the manual by
means of which they were trained to give an
interactive training at the final day of this
activity on juveniles and women topics.
Based on the evaluation conducted by the end of
the ToT, all participants highly appreciated
this activity as the first of this kind. They
considered it as very valuable and useful for
their present work and most importantly for the
future continuous training of the uniform,
education, health care staff in penitentiary
institutions. Local trainers will draft a
working plan of such further training based on
the training manual which will be finalized by
AHC experts by September 2007 and the TCP will
train the newly recruited staff in pre-trial
institutions already now under the
responsibility of the GDP.
