Media and
its role in the fight against discrimination

Appreciating the media’s role in
preventing different forms of discrimination;
appreciating the media’s professionalism in
addressing minorities in general, and the Roma
minority and Egyptian community in particular,
on December 17, 2007, the Albanian Helsinki
Committee organized a half-day training course
with reporters from the print and broadcast
media. Reporters participating in the course had
the opportunity to enhance their knowledge with
regard to concepts of discrimination, implicit
and explicit,
 in
the media, intolerance, the treatment of special
society groups, international standards, and
professional ethics in the exercise of their
profession.
Part of the trained group were
representatives of the Roma and Egyptian
organizations, providing representatives from
the media and the communities with the
opportunity to establish contact and enhance
cooperation.
