invited to meeting with Mr. Alfred Moisiu, President of
the Republic of Albania

The start of the electoral campaign for
the local elections of February 18, 2007, highlighted
once again the failure to respect the Code of Conduct
approved by political forces.
On January 22, 2007, the President of the
Republic of Albania invited civil society
representatives, including the AHC. Mr. Moisiu praised
the role of the civil society in the development of
democracy and in monitoring elections, in particular.
Discussions in the meeting included, among other things,
the electoral campaign, respect for the Code of Conduct,
transparency on campaign financing, and respect for
voter rights. The President of the Republic emphasized
the civil society’s monitoring role and the need for
coordination. Furthermore, monitoring the code of
conduct and publicly denouncing cases of its violation
were stressed.
