Albanian
local trainers trained prison administration
On
10-12 September 2007, Albanian Helsinki
Committee (AHC) undertook a follow-up mission to
supervise and evaluate eight local penitentiary
trainers from three local penitentiary
institutions of I.E.D.P. Lezha, I.E.D.P. Vaqarr
and I.E.D.P. ‘Jordan Misja’ Tirana, which were
trained on the treatment of juveniles and women
based on the written curricula in the Train of
Trainers (ToT) program.
During these three trainings days,
there were two trainings based on juvenile’s
module performed on the I.E.D.P. Lezha and
I.E.D.P. Vaqarr and a training based on the
women’s module performed on I.E.D.P. ‘Jordan
Misja’ Tirana.
The trainers had prepared and
gave very good trainings and more concretely,
they treated issues like psychological
implication of detention of women and juveniles,
the atmosphere in a women and juvenile regime;
conflict management, daily programs, safe
climate in the penitentiary institutions, basic
skills of motivational interviewing, and best
practise on different programs/activities in
women and juveniles penitentiary institution.
The trainers used different methodologies during
their performance, which were based on the first
draft of the manual by means of which they were
trained to give an interactive training at the
ToT activity.
To
supervise and support the follow-up mission
there were Mr. Jan van den Brand expert from
Dutch Prison Service, Mrs. Edlira Papavangjeli,
Project Director the AHC, Mr. Mirgen Lata,
director of social and legal issues at the
General Directorate of Prisons (GDP), and Mr.
Filip Llaka, the head of the training session at
the GDP.
Based on the evaluation of each
performance, different recommendations were
given by the international expert to each of the
trainers to improve their didactical skills, as
well on the training program and the selection
of the participants of the training.
The trainers considered as very
useful the continuity of these trainings in
their every day work, as well as their need for
improving their selves for a better performance
in giving the trainings. This will develop
further the internal capacities of the
penitentiary institutions in giving trainings
and therefore improving the situation of the
treatment of the juveniles and women in these
institutions.
