Memorandum of Cooperation on Monitoring European Integration Progress of Albania

On the date February 26, 2007, Open Society Foundation for Albania -Soros, Albanian Helsinki Committee, Institute of International Studies and the European Center together with the Ministry of Integration signed the Memorandum of Cooperation on monitoring EU-Albania relationship in the context of the European integration process[1]. During the signing ceremony, both parties expressed their commitment for promoting civil society monitoring in the process of the European integration of the country. The minister of Integration, Ms. Arenca Trashani, assessed the participation of the civil society in this process and conveyed the willingness on the part of the body she leads for disseminating every piece of useful information. The representatives of the monitoring organizations of the European integration progress of Albania highlighted the importance of involving the civil society in monitoring this process, as a factor that will increase the responsibility and raise awareness of the state bodies and the transparency in access to information of the achieved results to the public opinion. The cooperation of the government structures with the non-governmental ones in the context of the endeavors for European integration has been recommended on the part of the European Commission.
