High managers of the penitentairy institutions in Albania  are trained

On 24 January 2008 AHC with its international expert Mr. Jan van den Brand introduced an effective tool of measuring the climate and treatment of prisoners with humanity in prisons as well as treated another very important issue like the role of the governors in the treatment of vulnerable prisoners. The audit tool helps get the perceptions of both prisoners and staff on service-delivery and service quality; gives the opportunities to both prisoners and staff to comment on a range of important issues and their experiences in the penal institutions and gives space to the GDP and local penal institutions to analyze the situation and how to improve it further and exchange best practices among penal institutions and learn from their colleagues. The last but not the least, the benefit of such a tool is that it is standardised, comprehensive and objective. AHC has recommended that the Albanian Prison System implement this tool in at least some pilot penal institutions.

On 1-3 April 2008 AHC organized a training session with all the governors of the penitentiary institutions of Albania. The international experts Mr. Jan van den Brand and Mr. Jacques van Huet with lots of experience in penitentiary issues gave their precious contribution in this activity. AHC had the honor to invite one of the Senior Trainers of the Dutch Prison System Mrs. Mirjam  Dierckxsens who has trained all the general governors of Dutch prison system, also all local governors as well.

The training was focused on several important issues related to the planning and delegation; giving the right information and feedback; making decision; activity planning and the relation between them; defining and allocating of the sources etc.

All the participants were provided with a full file with all the training materials. The participants highly appreciated the quality of the training and considered it as very useful and practical in their everyday work.
