‘For a better respect of juveniles and women’s rights in penitentiary institutions’

Aiming to contribute to the process set in motion by the Albanian government, in particular the Albanian Prison Administration, to establish accepted approaches to the treatment of juveniles and women in penitentiary institutions, Albanian Helsinki Committee (AHC) starts the implementation of the project ‘For a better respect of juveniles and women’s rights in penitentiary institutions’, which is financially supported by UNICEF Albania, through the accorded fund of 15 999 USD. The project will be implemented in the period July 2009- January 2010.

 

The objectives of the project are:

 

  1. To observe the rights and treatment of juveniles and women in penitentiary institutions;

  2. To set up a core team of trainers coming from different penitentiary institutions, by means of a better training curricula and providing them with further training skills on juvenile issues and treatment.

 

 

The above goal and objectives will be realized throughout:

 

  1. Training of penitentiary administration through a train the trainers program on juveniles and women related issues

  2. Monitoring the law enforcement from the part of penitentiary administration in pre-trial detention centers and prisons, regarding the treatment offered to the juveniles and women in these institutions
