Respecting the rights of Albanian emigrants and
returned persons in Albania
19.06.2009
In order
to promote cooperation between state
institutions and civil society and coordination
of efforts in finding joint opportunities for
improving the situation of the rights of
Albanian emigrants and foreign persons returned
to Albania, AHC on 11 June 2009 organized the
round table “Respecting the rights of Albanian
emigrants and returned persons in Albania”. The
aim of this round table was introduction of some
key findings identified by AHC during the
monitoring process carried out regarding the
level of implementation of the rights of
Albanian emigrants and foreign persons returned
to our country.
The AHC
monitoring process includes the period November
2008-May 2009. The monitoring process was
conducted through direct
meetings with representatives of various
state institutions, civil society actors working
in this field, monitoring of all border crossing
points as well as consultation with different
reports of local and international
organizations. The initiative to monitor the
observation of the rights of Albanian emigrants
and foreign persons returned to Albania
constitutes one of the main pillars of AHC
activity and is in conformity with AHC mission
to promote and contribute in improving the
situation of human rights in this area.
High-level representatives of state
institutions, various actors of civil society,
representatives of international and local
organizations that contribute in the field as
well as media representatives have participated
in this round table. Participants evaluated the
AHC findings and the contribution given through
offering concrete recommendations and
suggestions to improve the situation of human
rights in this area.
The final
version of the AHC monitoring report will be
available to the state institutions and other
partners.
Activity
was widely covered by printed and electronic
media.
This
activity is realized in the framework of the
project “Contributing for a better respect of
the rights of Albanian emigrants and returned
persons” financially supported by Norwegian
Helsinki Committee.
