Appeal of the Albanian Helsinki Committee

Honoured electors,

On July 3, 2005 the elections for the Parliament of the Republic of Albania will be held in our country.

The Constitution of the Republic of Albania guarantees all the citizens the right to elect. AHC, the first non-governmental organization, the mission of which was and still is the observance of citizens rights and freedoms, regarding the fact that the periodic elections are significant factors towards the further intensification of the democratic reforms, appeals to all the voters that on July 3 of this year to exercise one of the fundamental rights, the one to vote.

 This is a highly significant event. We are electing for a 4-year term the new Parliament of Albania, our highest legislative representatives.

This is also a significant event based on the fact that Europe and USA seek from the Albanian government and the political class that the elections of this year be free, fair and uncontested.

It’s precisely due to the afore-mentioned reasons that the Albanian Helsinki Committee appeals to all the voters to participate in these elections and vote freely for the electoral subject they want to.

The high turnout in the voting will show the maturity of our people as well for the fact that these elections will be a test for the integration of Albania in Euro-Atlantic structures.

AHC appeals also to the electors that are not included in the final list, to appeal to the judicial district court and ask for their verdict to allow them to vote in their polling station. Don’t hesitate to do that, there is still time.

Honoured electors!

The law guarantees the free and secret ballot. Denounce cases of promises or intimidations with the aim of making you vote pro or con a candidate or electoral subject.

Maintain the confidentiality of your vote and do not allow entry as a family in the secret booth.

If you are unable to vote yourselves, choose another person to assist you, a resident in your voting centre that like you has the name on the voters list.

Take care the moment you vote.

In order for your vote not to be considered invalid, mark the sign in the right square.

On this occasion, AHC congratulates all the voters, as well as the migrants that have come back home to vote, who by means of their free and fair vote will contribute to a better life, to the consolidation of democracy and its institutions in Albania.
