Round table on
electoral reform
In the context of the need for electoral reform, the AHC
organized on March 21st, 2005, a round table to discuss Some main amendments to
the Electoral Code. The most important issues addressed at the round table
were: the timeframe for the preparation of the voters lists and their
publication, responsible persons for the compilation of these lists and their
correction as well as penalizations in case of violations, deadlines for the
correction of the voters lists, the way in which students who do not live in
Tirana may vote, the vote counting process, consideration of cases that
represent a judicial target, media monitoring during the electoral campaign, the
process of election financing, requests for local observers accreditation, etc.
Participants at the round table also conducted numerous discussions on issues
raised by the AHC.
Participating in the round table were also representatives of
state authorities, representatives of local and international organizations,
experts of the field, as well as print and broadcast media representatives.
