PROMOTION OF DOCUMENTARY FILM

“Feeling equal" – In Greece, among the emigrants"

In the context of its mission to increase sensitization on human rights, on May 11, 2006, the Albanian Helsinki Committee organized the first showing of the documentary film "Feeling equal – In Greece, among the emigrants," a production of AHC and Art Studio Grishaj.

The documentary deals with the life of Albanian emigrants in Greece, their efforts to integrate into the Greek society, the difficulties they encounter, positive experiences of their integration, and efforts they make to achieve their rights. The film was realized on the basis of interviews with Albanian emigrants and Greek citizens. The interviews touch upon various problems that Albanian emigrants in Greece have, related to employment, schooling, and treatment by the Greek society. The treatment of Albanians by Greek police on the border is also addressed.

In the movie, Greek citizens express their views on Albanian emigrants. The work and efforts of human rights organizations in Greece and in Albania, mainly the Albanian emigrants associations and the Albanian Helsinki Committee, take up a special place in the documentary. The documentary seeks to convey the optimistic spirit for a better life and respect for human rights.

“Tomorrow will be a new day, with the hope and wish that people of any nationality and color were closer to each other, with the common element of being HUMAN and feeling equal.” (Quotation from the script of the documentary "Feeling equal")

Invited to the activity were senior representatives of state institutions, embassies accredited to Tirana, Albanian and international non-profit organizations, etc.

AHC avails itself of the opportunity to thank the group that realized the film, well-known director Mr. Ylli Pepo and the Norwegian Helsinki Committee for its financial support.

The Albanian Helsinki Committee assures the anonimousity until the moment when the person desires to publish his data
