The guilty shall be held responsible
Albanian Helsinki Committee condemns the cruel fatal assault in Zakinto island in Greece to the Albanian migrant Halil Palushi, only because he demonstrated his natural and legitimate enthusiasm about the victory of the Albanian team in the football match Albania-Greece played in Tirana
on September, 4 2004.
According to the reports from the foreign agencies and the Albanian media, for the same reason in some Greek cities other Albanian migrants were maltreated, and what is more there were also hospitalised people.
AHC extends deep condolences to the family and relatives of the victim, meanwhile wishing a quick recovery to the hurt people.
AHC, considers the aforementioned acts as very negative phenomena that undermine the healthy atmosphere between our peoples laden with elements of a sick patriotism, extremism, xenophobia and rowdy behaviour. Such acts have nothing in common with the sports like spirit that serves as
a linking bridge between the peoples where the fair and professional rivalry needs support, respect and encouragement.
On this occasion, AHC hails the declaration of the Greek Governments spokesman that condemns openly and categorically the confirmed incidents and pledges to take relevant measures to hold the
guilty people legally responsible.
AHC would not like similar cases to be repeated in the future, and occurrences like the recent one to be accompanied with other harmful consequences.
AHC considers as necessary to recall the fresh message of the Olympic Games for peace, equality and brotherhood and also for unfolding culture, achievements and traditions of any country for friendship and understanding between peoples.
