The AHC’s main mission is the observation of respect for
the freedoms and rights of citizens and the reaction to
violations for the purpose of their reinstatement;
sensitising citizens about the protection of their
freedoms and rights; improving legislation and the
practice of law enforcement through opponence and
recommendations in the phases of the drafting of laws as
well as of their enforcement.
In the
city of Durres on January 27 a journalist of the newspaper "Zeri i Popullit"
(of the Socialist Party in power) was submitted to use of violence. This
incident is all the more serious that the author is a high official of the
Durres Municipality, member of the Council of the Municipality. The motive for
such maltreatment was the remarks made by the journalist to the address of the
Department of the Public Service of the Municipality.
The AHC
joined the protest of the Association of journalists in Durres, which condemned
the violence used against the journalist considering it not only as an isolated
personal case, but also as an attack against freedom of press.
