THE
FREEDOM OF PRESS SHOULD BE RESPECTED
AS
WELL AS PRIVATE LIFE
The
newspaper "Albania" reported at the beginning of this week
that its editor Mr. Ylli Rakipi received an anonim telephone call
threading him to put an end to the writings against the Chairman of
the Socialist Party Fatos Nano, otherwise "he and his family
would pay an high price" The claimed act of threatening is
contrary to the law and should be denounced to the organs of
justice. This is the first proposal which the AHC suggests.
On
the other side, the AHC notes that the newspaper "Albania"
has published and continues to publish writings about the private
life of the Socialist leader. This is beyond the limits of the
limits of the press mission and the journalistic ethics. The press
and the media in general have full rights to follow the activity of
the political leaders and to make their comments and critical
remarks. The political leaders should be tolerant towards these
comments, as they are more exposed to the public opinion, and this
is a recognized principle.
The
AHC makes its reservations about these writings interfering in the
private life of any citizen, including the public personalities.
This is a constitutional principle.
