Albanian Helsinki Committee , the first non-governmental organization, committed in monitoring all the elections held in our country, voices its concern that even after OSCE/ODIHR report , no concrete steps have been taken as regards the further amendment of the Electoral Code and the
entire electoral infrastructure
AHC, regretfully confirms that obviously the main obstacle is the aggravated political climate in the country, a phenomenon identified more than once by the international organizations as well.
AHC considers worthy to highlight that first and foremost it is the voters themselves who are interested in holding free, democratic and uncontested elections. Having this perception, AHC shares the opinion that the delays in preparing the future elections, can be accompanied by harmful and unjustifiable consequences. It is precisely this, the reason
that AHC suggests to the Parliament and the Government of the Republic of Albania to take the relevant technical-administrative and legal measures to guarantee the progress of the parliamentary elections in all their aspects.
AHC also appeals to all the political forces of the position and the opposition that for the sake of the country and the future of Albania to cooperate in improving the electoral legislation, its drafting and enforcement demanding consensus and political will in the spirit of the Constitution and the basic principles that foster the standard democratic elections. |
