A
SIGNIFICANT EVALUATION
The
representative of OSCE in Albania, Gert Ahrens, following a visit in
Gjirokaster, an area of different minority groups and religious
beliefs made a significant evaluation of the situation in Albania in
this respect. He called Albania as "an example in respecting
the different religious beliefs and ethnic communities".
Mr.
Ahrens was informed on the spot in particular in relation with some
isolated cases of damaging orthodox churches in the area of Greek
minority and concluded that they are "of purely criminal
character and have nothing to do with motives of religious or ethnic
hatred".
He
added that in the field of minorities and religions Albania is in
higher position then the other countries of former Yugoslavia, where
the consequences of the hatred were disastrous.
