A VANDAL ACT AGAINST A SCHOOL

15.03.2002

According to press reports on Mach 14, 2002 in the city of Vlora a serious crime has been committed against a private school setting it on fire by three unknown masked persons.

As a result serious damages were caused and among them classes burnt and the relative equipment fully destroyed.

This crime was described as an act of revenge by the owners of the school building not recognized as such by the municipality.

The AHC expresses the opinion that this act is not simply a property conflict. It is first of all an act against the right to education. Needless to say, that every act of violence is condemned by law. But this is a special case, it is an attack against a public interest, in this case the right of dozens of students to enter the door of knowledge. It is to be expected that the forces of public order will deploy special efforts to discover the authors of this vandal act which in this case can be considered as an act at the limit of terrorism.
