Albanian Helsinki Committee and its
mission
The Albanian Helsinki
Committee, Albanias first ever human rights organization for the
protection of human rights and freedoms, was founded as the Forum for
the Protection of Fundamental Human Freedoms and Rights, registered
through decision no. 17/1 of the Ministry of Justice, date 12.01.1991.
On March 22nd, 1992, the organization became a member of the
International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights, named the Albanian
Helsinki Committee. Upon approval of the law On non-profit
organizations, the AHC registered with the Tirana District Court in
conformity with the requirements of this law.
The AHCs leading mission is
the observation of respect for human rights and freedoms, reinstatement
of violated rights, raising the awareness of citizens over the
protection of their rights and freedoms, as well as the improvement of
legislation and practice of enforcement of laws through critiques and
recommendations. Part of this mission is also raising the accountability
of the public administration in the correct application of laws through
building the capacities of this administration.
