AHC mission

The AHC’s main mission is the observation of respect for the freedoms and rights of citizens and the reaction to violations for the purpose of their reinstatement; sensitising citizens about the protection of their freedoms and rights; improving legislation and the practice of law enforcement through opponence and recommendations in the phases of the drafting of laws as well as of their enforcement.

PRELIMINARY REPORT ON THE PROGRESS OF THE GENERAL ELECTIONS PROCESS OF JULY 3, 2005 IN ALBANIA

 

 

 

Project Capacity building for the organization and enhancement of internal organization
Implementation period: October 2003-October 2006

The goal of this project is the development, enhancement, and building of the organization’s capacities with a view to transforming it into a sustainable organization in the Albanian society

 

Concrete project objectives

 

  1. Strengthening AHC’s monitoring activities in the “hot” human rights areas, and its lobbying and protective work by enhancing the monitoring section;

  2. Raising awareness and improving educational work in the human rights area

  3. Intensifying the organization’s relations with beneficiaries and partners through  strengthening its skills in communicating with the public and through a better use of its protective mechanisms.

  4. Boosting performance of the AHC staff.

 

Activities carried out in the context of the project

 

  1. Verifications in cases of human rights violations and interventions for their reinstatement

  2. Lobbying activities and providing legal expertise on a variety of laws

  3. Increasing public access to AHC’s activities through the publication of the periodical newsletter, the annual report, maintaining the website, etc; 

  4. Building the organization’s capacities through training programs for the AHC staff. 

  5. Increasing awareness among the public and state authorities by compiling human rights reports in various areas, public statements, and by addressing recommendations to state authorities. 

Project Results

 

  • AHC’s relations with its beneficiaries were strengthened

  • The number of cases of violations referred to the AHC increased

  • The AHC was more present in the print and broadcast media

  • The AHC was more sought to provide legal expertise, particularly with regard to the electoral legislation and process.

  • The AHC staff, its correspondents, and volunteers are better trained

  • Financial transparency increased

The Albanian Helsinki Committee assures the anonimousity until the moment when the person desires to publish his data
