The AHC’s main mission is the observation of respect for
the freedoms and rights of citizens and the reaction to
violations for the purpose of their reinstatement;
sensitising citizens about the protection of their
freedoms and rights; improving legislation and the
practice of law enforcement through opponence and
recommendations in the phases of the drafting of laws as
well as of their enforcement.

objectives
More systematic monitoring of respect for human rights and
freedoms at the local level;
Facilitation of reinstatement of violated rights of citizens in
the districts where correspondents operated;
Expansion of sensitizing and educational activities on human
rights at the local level;
Increasing public access to the AHC.
Activities
carried out in the context of the project
Sporadic and
planned monitoring of respect for human rights by the police, courts,
administration, etc.;
Addressing letters
and complaints from citizens in the districts where correspondents are based;
Informative
programs on local TV and radio stations in the districts to inform the public
on the electoral process for local government bodies;
Preparation of two
reports on respect for human rights by the police and in the judicial system;
Missions in support
of the correspondents network in their districts;
Training of
correspondents on human rights and the monitoring methodology in detention
facilities and prisons;
Meeting to evaluate
the correspondents network.
Project Results:
Better knowledge of
the human rights situation in areas such as the judiciary, police stations,
health sector, and the public administration in the districts where the AHC
correspondents are based;
Citizens access to
the AHC grew;
Facilitation of
procedures and faster resolution of citizens concerns regarding respect for
their rights;
Local government
bodies were more monitored;
AHCs role at the
local level increased.
