PRELIMINARY REPORT ON THE PROGRESS OF THE GENERAL ELECTIONS PROCESS OF JULY 3, 2005 IN ALBANIA

 

 

 

 
Project Title: For a better respect of human rights, health and social care in Albania
The implementing organization: Albanian Helsinki Committee

In the framework of the fulfillment of our mission, we’d like to inform that on 1st July 2008 has started the implementation of our project named “ For a better respect of human rights, health and social care in Albania”, awarded by U.S. Department of State, Federal Assistance Award.

Based on:

  • Our previous observation where is been noted the poor quality of the health care services, violations of the patients rights and the poor treatment provided primary and secondary health care institutions as well as in psychiatric institutions.

  • The rights and treatment of orphans in orphanages has been target of concerns of international and national monitoring bodies.

  • The importance of such services and poor protection of the rights of these categories of Albanian populations

 

AHC evaluated as more important the intervention in this field, materialized in the implementation of this project.

Through this initiative AHC will:

  • Monitor how the rights of Albanian Citizens in contact with health care services are observed, in particular to the rights and treatment of chronic and mentally disturbed patients in psychiatric institutions.

  • Report the findings and the abusive practices  through activities on these field monitoring missions in these state institutions

  • lobby for the interest of these citizens from local to the highest level of power and follow-up of concrete cases to the respective state bodies;

  • contribute to improve the existing legal framework in the respective areas of intervention of this initiative and offering legal criticism and expertise

  • Will make use of written, electronic media, at the central and local regions and cities to sensitize the public in general on the main concerning issues of these services, how to get access to theses services and the rights and obligations of the public institutions in provided such services

The project will be implemented during one year and the total budget is 18 890 US

AHC  is open and appreciate the cooperation with other organization and institutions in this initiative
