The AHC’s main mission is the observation of respect for
the freedoms and rights of citizens and the reaction to
violations for the purpose of their reinstatement;
sensitising citizens about the protection of their
freedoms and rights; improving legislation and the
practice of law enforcement through opponence and
recommendations in the phases of the drafting of laws as
well as of their enforcement.
Increasing
awareness on the enforcement of the International Criminal Court Statute in
Albania

Goal of the project:
Contribute
to the process of sensitizing the civil society for better acquaintance with the
role of the International Criminal Court and the importance of its Statutes
implementation in the Albanian domestic legislation.
Concrete project
objectives:
Raise public
awareness on the role of the International Criminal Court and the need for its
Statutes implementation in the Albanian domestic legislation;
Inform the Albanian
civil society about the International Criminal Court;
Encourage lawmaking
bodies to improve penal legislation with a view to enforcing the Statute of
the International Criminal Court.
Activities carried out in the context of the project:
Realize a study on
constitutional, penal, and penal procedural legislation in the spirit of the
International Criminal Courts Statute;
Organize a round
table discussion to provide better knowledge on the role of the International
Criminal Court and to rapproach Albanian legislation to the principles and
requirements contained in the Rome Statute;
Publication
International Criminal Court the
Albania case;
Adress
recommendations for improving penal and penal procedural legislation and other
necessary amendments.
Project Results
For the first time, there was a study on rapproaching Albanian
legislation with the International Criminal Courts Statute;
Representatives of state bodies promised amendments to penal
legislation in the spirit of the Rome Statute;
Numerous human rights organizations were informed for the first
time about this statute and the need for legal reform;
The Law School and the Magistrates School have a foundation
for building training programs for judges, prosecutors, and lawyers on
various aspects of the Rome Statute.
